Blue-Point BLPAT870 1/2-inch Pneumatic Impact Wrench 870 N·m FAQ
What fasteners and applications can the BLPAT870 870 N·m pneumatic impact wrench handle?
With up to 870 N·m of maximum tightening torque and a 1/2-inch square drive, the BLPAT870 is intended for routine automotive, tyre-service and equipment-maintenance work. As with any impact wrench, actual removal performance depends on the bolt grade, thread condition, corrosion, joint preload and air-supply condition.

Application |
Typical work |
|
Automotive repair |
Routine maintenance fasteners and chassis-component service |
|
Tyre service |
Passenger-car and selected commercial-vehicle wheel fastener removal and installation |
|
Heavy-equipment maintenance |
Routine fastening work on construction and industrial equipment |
As a general reference, the 870 N·m output level can cover many M12–M20 fastener applications in passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and selected construction machinery. Fastener diameter alone does not determine the required torque, so always follow the manufacturer or engineering specification for final tightening.
HOW THE DRIVE SYSTEM SUPPORTS DIFFERENT JOBS
· Twin-hammer mechanism: two hammers alternately strike during rotation, producing two impact events per revolution compared with a basic single-hammer layout. This gives a quick response and more continuous impact delivery.
· Six-vane rotor: the six-vane air motor helps provide smoother pneumatic drive and stable rotation.
· Three forward settings: lower output can be used for more controlled fastening, medium for routine work and high for higher-torque tasks.
· Full-power reverse: maximum reverse output is available to help remove stubborn fasteners.
Will the BLPAT870 feel excessively tiring or harsh during long periods of use, and how is durability addressed?
· Reduced handling load: the glass-fibre composite housing is lighter than a traditional all-metal housing, helping reduce the weight the operator must hold during repeated use.
· Grip comfort: the dual-material moulded handle provides a more comfortable contact surface for longer working periods.
· Durable cylinder construction: the air cylinder is made as a one-piece ductile cast-iron component for stability under repeated high-torque impact loads.
· Air cooling: internal airflow carries heat away from the working components, helping reduce heat build-up during extended operation.
Impact tools naturally transmit vibration, so operator comfort also depends on application, socket condition, air pressure, duty cycle and working technique. Use appropriate PPE and follow workshop operating guidance.
How should the BLPAT870 be maintained, and how often does it need lubrication?
DAILY LUBRICATION
· Before use, add the specified pneumatic-tool oil through the air inlet to lubricate internal moving components and maintain smooth operation.
PERIODIC LUBRICATION
· A press-fit grease port at the front allows grease to be applied to the hammer mechanism and spindle bearing without disassembling the complete housing.
· Under heavy-duty working conditions, the source guidance recommends replenishing grease approximately every 1–3 months. Actual service intervals should be adjusted to operating hours, duty cycle and the maintenance instructions supplied with the tool.
AIR INLET FILTER
· The air-inlet filter can be removed and cleaned to prevent debris entering the cylinder and accelerating internal wear.
